8-Layer Aquarium Filter Floss Pad — 23.62 x 15.75 x 0.6 in
Product description
What you get: a single 23.62 x 15.75 x 0.6 inch sheet of multi-layer filter floss constructed in eight stacked layers. The pad includes a light honeycomb-style netting on the surfaces to hold the fibers together and help preserve its shape when cut or submerged.
Materials and build: the media is made from layered synthetic fibers designed for mechanical filtration. The fiber stack traps debris and particulates while the surface netting prevents the sheet from unravelling and makes straight cuts easier. The pad is compressible and meant to be trimmed to size for a variety of filtration housings.
How to use: measure and cut the amount you need with scissors, place the trimmed piece into your filter chamber, sump, filter box or pond filter, and allow water to flow through the media so particles are caught in the fiber layers. When the floss becomes visibly loaded with detritus, either rinse the section under flow or replace it with fresh material.
Sizing and fit: because the sheet is thin and flexible it can be shaped to fit hang-on-back filters, canisters, sumps and DIY boxes. The design supports steady water movement through the layers rather than blocking flow entirely, but it’s important to confirm your filter will route water through the pad as intended.
Maintenance and compatibility: the pad can be rinsed to extend service life or swapped out when clogged. It’s intended for freshwater aquaria, pond setups, aquarium sumps and other custom filtration arrangements where cut-to-fit mechanical media is useful.
Pros
- Cut-to-fit sheet for many filter types
- Layered fibers trap fine debris
- Surface netting helps retain shape and aids cutting
Cons
- Can feel thinner than expected
- Some shedding/lint reported when cutting
- May not suit filters that don’t route flow through the pad
VerdictThis layered filter pad is a flexible, cut-to-fit mechanical media option for routine aquarium and sump maintenance. The stacked fibers and outer netting help capture suspended particles and uneaten food while maintaining water passage. It isn’t bulky, so it works where space is limited, but some users have reported lint or a thinner feel than expected. Overall it’s a practical option for those wa

Durable and dependable in my axolotl tank
I use these pads regularly because they have multiple layers and can be trimmed to fit. They tolerate many washes and have lasted me a long time without falling apart. I keep a supply on hand and they perform well in my axolotl setup.

Thick sheet with holding netting — works for HOB cuts
This arrives as a large sheet with many internal layers and netting on both faces. The surface mesh keeps the fibers together and makes it easier to cut straight pieces. Once trimmed I used one long strip and two smaller pieces in my hang-on-back filter; the material seems sturdy and should last a while. So far I’m pleased and would recommend it for similar setups.

Surprisingly thin and sheds fibers
The pad is very thin despite the eight-layer label, and it never really expanded after unsealing. It will filter some debris, but cutting released a lot of lint-like particles. I worry those tiny fibers could wash into the tank and be difficult to remove completely.

Does the job but thinner than expected
The layered floss removes debris and helps keep water clearer, and I like that it’s simple to cut to fit different chambers. My copy wasn’t as thick as described, but it still provided useful mechanical filtration and can be rinsed and reused until heavily loaded.

Check how your filter routes water first
This floss works when water flows through the top of the pad, but not all filters are designed that way. I placed it across my return and the water backed up and spilled rather than passing through the media. The material is easy to size, but make sure your filter will actually pull water through the sheet before installing.

Handy for awkward sump sizes
I use these sheets in my sump where dimensions are awkward; they trim easily and capture solids before they reach other media. They’re simple to replace when dirty and you can rinse pieces for extra life, so they suit routine maintenance needs.

May not be ideal for hang-on-back models
I tried this on several HOB units and while the build seems decent and the honeycomb netting makes clean cuts, it shed a lot of lint when trimmed. Even after rinsing the fibers continued to come loose, so it didn’t suit my HOBs—might be better in a canister or sump where lint won’t migrate into the display.
