0–28% Salinity Refractometer with ATC — Salt/Brine Refractometer
Product description
Purpose and applications
This refractometer is intended to measure sodium chloride concentration in saline liquids. Typical uses include pickling and other food processing tasks, brine production, fish processing, fermented vegetable monitoring and general seawater or saltwater testing.
Measurement range and accuracy
The instrument reads from 0 to 28% NaCl with scale increments of 0.2% and a stated accuracy of ±0.2%. It is well suited to higher concentration saline solutions where precise percent salt values are required.
Temperature compensation and operation
A built‑in Automatic Temperature Compensation (ATC) covers 10°C to 30°C, reducing errors from sample temperature and making readings faster and more consistent. Operation is simple: place 2–3 drops of the sample on the glass prism, close the sample cover, point toward a light source and observe the scale through the eyepiece. The salinity is read where the colored and clear fields meet.
Construction and included items
The body is aluminum, chosen for its resistance to staining, rust and corrosion for longer service life. The kit arrives with a hard plastic storage box, a plastic dropper for sample application, a small screwdriver for calibration, an instruction manual and a cleaning cloth (color supplied at random).
Pros
- Wide 0–28% NaCl range with fine 0.2% graduations
- ATC (10–30°C) simplifies temperature effects
- Durable aluminum body and complete accessory kit
Cons
- Manual reading requires steady hands and good light
- ATC limited to 10–30°C range
- Cleaning cloth color varies and is not selectable
VerdictThis compact salinity refractometer offers a wide 0–28% NaCl range with fine 0.2% graduations and reliable ±0.2% accuracy, making it suitable for brine work in food processing, fermentation and marine checks. The automatic temperature compensation from 10–30°C speeds up measurements, and the aluminum body is built to resist corrosion. It’s straightforward to use—place a few drops on the prism, vie

Handy for fermented vegetables
Easy operation and dependable results — perfect for checking the salt level of my ferments.

Good range, practical limit
Reads up to about 25%–28% salinity; beyond that concentrations are simply extremely salty and out of practical range.

Clear to operate and read
Matches the product description. Put a drop on the prism, close the cover, and look through the eyepiece. Read salinity where the colored and clear areas meet on the scale.
