Plano Three-Tray Tackle Box — Top-Access Fishing Gear Organizer
Product description
The Plano Three-Tray Tackle Box is a molded plastic organizer built around a two-level storage concept: a deep lower compartment for bulkier gear and a top-access tray for small tackle that you need instantly. Inside you’ll find three cantilever trays with adjustable dividers so you can configure compartments for hooks, jigs, softbaits or other small pieces.
A front-mounted brass latch is specified as rust-resistant to keep the lid secured against moisture and rough handling. The body is injection-molded plastic designed to be lightweight yet durable enough for frequent use. Overall exterior dimensions measure 14.9"L x 6.6"W x 8.3"H, giving a compact footprint that still holds a surprising amount of equipment.
The top-access layout allows you to open just the shallow tray to grab commonly used items without opening the entire box. The deeper lower cavity accommodates tools like knives, spare reels, extra line spools and larger terminal tackle. The adjustable tray dividers slide to create small pockets for hooks and small lures or larger slots for bulkier pieces.
This model is made in the USA and reflects a long-standing focus on practical design for anglers. It’s intended for everyday fishing, shore or boat use, and for organizing a wide range of freshwater and light saltwater tackle. The box is portable and sized for easy transport in a vehicle or carry handle.
As with many compact tackle organizers, the cantilever trays rely on small support points and hinge arms that make the unit lightweight and space-efficient. That same approach can mean users should be mindful of how trays are loaded and closed. Overall, this three-tray tackle box offers customizable organization, protected closure via a corrosion-resistant brass latch, and a combination of shallow and deep storage to suit most angling outings.
Pros
- Rust-resistant brass front latch
- Top-access tray plus deep lower compartment
- Adjustable dividers for customizable layout

VerdictThis three-tray tackle box combines a roomy lower storage area for larger tools and reels with a shallow, top-access tray for frequently used lures and hooks. It’s a solid, versatile option for anglers who want consolidated, dependable tackle storage witho

Practical layout; bought another
Three trays are essential if you have many lures and it’s also roomy enough for a spare reel and line. Liked it so much I ordered a second one.

Handy upgrade that consolidated my gear
I switched from carrying a backpack and a tiny box to this single tackle organizer. It fits everything with room to spare. The three trays help me sort lures, and the bottom area holds bigger items like a spare reel. The latch feels secure and the unit seems sturdy. Sometimes it sticks slightly when opening—probably because I cram heavier weights inside—but it’s never caused a real problem. Overall a solid consolidation solution.

Classic appearance and sensible layout
I’ve used several Plano storage cases over the years and this three-tray version is my first of its kind. Out of the box it feels well-made; the plastic has a substantial feel and the two-tone finish gives it that traditional look. It’s more compact than some options I considered, which I appreciate—lightweight and easy to carry yet still roomy enough for many needs. A good pick for new anglers or those who prefer a smaller, efficient organizer.

Repurposed it as my first-aid kit
I own several storage boxes and this one became my car first-aid container. It holds more than I expected and is bigger than it looks in photos. The issue that keeps it from a perfect score is that the three trays sit on a small plastic support in the lid and can sometimes tip off that piece. The top pop-open vents also open a bit too easily and don’t always stay closed. Even with those quirks, I like it and it serves my purpose well.

Functional but not for heavy-duty use
Bought this for extra storage compared to our two-drawer unit. It certainly holds more and is handy for pond trips, but the hinges and supporting arms feel a bit light for rough handling. The drawer catch missed its landing by about half an inch; I improvised a small fix from leftovers in the shop to get it stable. Good for short moves from truck to shore, but I’d choose a beefier option if you need gear to take knocks.

Time-tested, practical design
This unit has that straightforward, dependable feel. The trays lift smoothly and give a full view of contents without feeling flimsy. Dual top access is particularly useful—you can grab small essentials without opening everything, which saves time on the water. The build is sturdy but not heavy, and the color scheme is clean. With three trays and a spacious bottom, there’s plenty of room for lures, weights and tools, and the latch locks down securely.
