Reptile
Reptile Carpet Substrate Mat (2-Pack) — Terrarium Liner for Lizards & Snakes
Product description
Includes two terrarium carpet liners sized 23.62 in (L) × 15.74 in (W) so you have coverage for small to medium enclosures or a spare piece.
Constructed from a high-density technical fiber and nonwoven fabric, the liner is made of non-toxic, odorless materials suitable for long-term use. The top layer is a soft, non-abrasive felt-like pile designed to be gentle on reptile bellies, feet and mouths, while the backing offers flexible foam support.
The fabric is absorbent and breathable, allowing moisture control while giving animals a comfortable place to rest. It is machine washable and reusable — rinsing, light detergent and air drying will refresh the mat for continued use.
This substrate avoids the risks of loose natural media; untreated soil, wood and leaf litter can introduce bacteria or parasites into a habitat. The carpet provides a cleaner alternative that helps maintain a safer environment for reptiles.
Custom cuts are simple: the mat trims easily to fit your tank dimensions. Before first use, smooth any trimmed edges with your hand to remove loose fibers and pet hair for a cleaner finish.
Pros
- Washable and reusable
- Soft, non-abrasive surface
- Trim-to-fit for custom tanks
Cons
- May shed fibers after cutting
- Not suitable for animals that ingest substrate
- Edges may need smoothing after trimming
VerdictA practical, low-maintenance option for reptile enclosures: soft underfoot, absorbent and easy to clean. The two-piece set fits many tanks and can be trimmed for custom sizing. Some users report shedding and loose fibers after cutting, but for those seeking a washable, safe substrate alternative the mats provide a comfortable, reusable surface that helps reduce loose natural debris in the habitat.

Sheds a lot and not pre-cut
This mat shed considerable fluff even after several washes and drying. It also wasn’t pre-cut to claimed size. I found it disappointing — might work better as a pet bed than substrate.

Handy and attractive
I’ve bought similar mats before. This one makes tank cleanup easier and adds a natural aesthetic to enclosures.

Soft, turf-like feel
Feels very soft and gives a realistic turf look. Good quality and easy to clean, though somewhat pricey.

Okay but has drawbacks
Looks and feels nice, but claws can sometimes catch and it’s not the easiest to deep-clean.

Great for a baby iguana — practical and tidy
I switched to this mat to avoid loose substrates my iguana might swallow. It instantly improved the enclosure’s appearance and is gentle on her belly and feet. Daily spot-cleaning is simple and it disinfects well for weekly cleaning. I folded a small overhang instead of cutting and it fit perfectly. After a couple months it’s still holding up, and I’d recommend it for many small reptiles for the convenience of not replacing substrate every few weeks.

Very soft — beardie approved
Bought for my bearded dragon’s enclosure. The surface is silky rather than plastic grass, resembling a soft carpet. My beardie prefers soft textures, so it should work well for him.

Fluffy texture, easy cleanup
The top layer is a furry material attached to a soft foam backing and it does pass for fluffy moss or grass. My iguana used it right away. Solid waste wiped off easily; a quick bath with dish soap and rinse restored it.

Rescue gecko moved more on this mat
I adopted a gecko with mobility issues and this mat made a real difference. It didn’t catch on his claws and he began walking and stretching more after I replaced the old surface. I haven’t had shedding issues or snagging on his feet — please bring it back!

Worked well for craft and terrarium use
Performed great for my project. Cutting caused some fraying but a quick pass with a lighter sealed edges. I’ll buy more for future tanks.
