Handmade Leather Journal Cover for 3.5" x 5.5" Notebooks (Coffee)
Product description
This cover is handcrafted from crazy horse leather, chosen for its rustic, vintage appearance and distinctive leather scent. The hide is substantial and develops character with use.
Construction is fully manual: each seam is sewn by hand using heavy waxed thread for greater tensile strength than a typical machine stitch. Inside you’ll find one card slot, a pen holder, and two interior pockets — one sized for a Field Notes or Moleskine Cahier and the other for cash, cards, or loose bits.
The dimensions are made for 3.5" x 5.5" notebooks (Field Notes and Moleskine Cahier-style), but it can also function as a passport wallet or a compact holder for credit and business cards. It slips into a pocket or bag and is intended for everyday carry by writers, journalists, students, and travelers.
Presented as a timeless gift, the cover is built to age and last. Expect natural variations in color and finish due to the leather’s treatment, and a feel that improves the more it’s handled.
Pros
- Handcrafted, heavy-duty leather construction
- Secure fit for standard 3.5" x 5.5" notebooks
- Multiple pockets for cards and cash
Cons
- Pen loop is rather tight and can be awkward
- Interior texture can resist smooth pen insertion

VerdictThis coffee-colored leather cover is solidly made and feels substantial in hand. The crazy horse hide has the expected vintage patina and aroma, and the hand-stitching with waxed thread looks robust. It secures standard 3.5" x 5.5" field notebooks without slippage and offers simple organization via a pen loop, a card slot and two internal pockets. The pen loop is tighter than some will like and ca

Device compatibility noted
My Xteink 3 slips in tightly. A deeper back pocket holds an iPhone SE (2020). The pen hanger feels awkward, though.

Three notebooks were missing
The cover itself is high quality, but the listing indicated three notebooks would be included and I received only the cover. The item did not match the description.

Durable but pen loop can be intrusive
Good leather and solid construction. It should last a long time. The pen loop interferes when writing on the back of pages and the interior surface makes sliding a pen less smooth. I removed the loop and now use a clip-style holder at the top — works fine.

Very attractive and protective
Presentation was lovely. The leather feels thick and soft to the touch, fits Field Notes perfectly and offers good protection. Stitching is well executed — a solid product.

Solid leather cover, fits snugly
I hesitated because of comments about the pen loop, but ordered to check the leather quality. The notebook seats firmly and doesn’t shift. The pen loop is short — a pen lays against the notebook and makes a bump unless you clip the pen to the loop or remove it. Otherwise it’s well made and protective.

Nicely packaged, great materials
Arrived well packed with a postcard and a paper bookmark — great for gifting. Thick leather, good stitching, and attractive finish.

Lovely leather, careful presentation
Arrived with a small dust bag and box, nicely presented. Fits Field Notes/passport size notebooks. The leather is thick and hearty. The pen loop is small — thin pens or ones with clips work best; my Jinhao fountain pen didn’t fit. Apart from that, a sturdy, attractive cover.

A tool for creative thinking
This feels like what I wanted for analog sketching and daydreaming. It holds a small kit of notebooks and a favorite pen so I can wander and draw. It’s like a little portable studio — I enjoy carrying it.

Slim and useful for field notebooks
A sleek, attractive cover that holds a couple of Field Notes and a pen. Comparable to more expensive alternatives and has been reliable for my use.

Professional look, excellent fit
Fits my field book perfectly and exceeded expectations. Quality of build is impressive for the value, it looks clean and professional and stands up to daily use. Size is compact without unnecessary bulk. Highly recommended for anyone needing a rugged, polished cover.

Meets expectations
The horsehide lacks the glossy sheen I imagined, but the cover should be durable. I like that I can swap calendar refills and use it long term.
