Canvas Repair Kit with Tear Mender Glue & Speedy Stitcher Sewing Awl
Product description
This comprehensive canvas repair set is assembled for durable field mending of heavy fabrics such as canvas, boat covers, tarps, and pop-up camper walls.
Included: one 6 oz bottle of Tear Mender Fabric & Leather Adhesive, a Speedy Stitcher sewing awl (made in the USA) supplied with a straight and a curved needle and simple assembly/use directions, over 30 yards of waxed coarse tan thread, and more than 6 square feet of heavy-duty canvas material sized for cutting custom patches.
Materials and features: the adhesive is formulated to be waterproof, flexible, permanent, quick-drying, UV resistant, eco-friendly, non-toxic and acid-free. For strongest results, apply a patch from the underside of the damaged area when possible; on materials the glue can penetrate it bonds permanently and becomes insoluble. The included waxed polyester thread (tan/buckskin color) is intended for heavy fabric stitching and fits the Speedy Stitcher.
How it’s used: apply Tear Mender to the surfaces to be joined (many users apply to both surfaces or to an underside patch), allow cure time as directed, and reinforce the glued area by stitching with the awl to create machine-like lock-stitches. The Speedy Stitcher is designed to push through thick canvas and leather where a sewing machine can’t reach, making it useful for permanent outdoor repairs.

Speedy Stitcher is easier than expected
I used iron-on and stick-on canvas first, then ran the awl around the patch to lock it in. I was apprehensive at the start, but the stitcher proved straightforward and not overly slow; a sewing machine would be faster if available. My hand stitches ended up tighter than my machine’s seams on this fabric.

Glue and canvas made an effective camper patch
I didn’t use the awl, only the adhesive and canvas, and the repair held up nicely. For pop-up camper window tears I cut a large patch to size and glued it over the old fabric—simple and effective. The glue was easy to work with and did a great job for our needs.

Exactly the right kit for my needs
Just the right fix.

Solid results on a cotton boat cover
My cotton mooring cover had worn corner holes. The supplied canvas was heavier than the cover, which helped. I glued both surfaces, let it cure, then stitched the perimeter the next day. Stitching takes a bit of practice and managing large fabric folds is tricky, but the repair seems sturdy.

Glue stands out but kit canvas may not bond well
The adhesive is the strongest component of the set. The included canvas has a coating on both sides that can resist bonding, so the fabric provided may not always accept the glue. The stitching tool is functional but you could source a separate awl if preferred; consider buying your own canvas if adhesion is critical.

Hard to find a full canvas repair kit like this
I bought this after finding a large tear in a used pop-up trailer. Most other kits were tiny or meant for light tents; this was the only full canvas kit I could locate. It includes adhesive, a sizable canvas piece and stitching supplies—an all-in-one option for bigger repairs.

Replacement glue fixed initial shipping problem
First bottle arrived dried out, but the seller promptly shipped a replacement that has held up well so far. I haven’t tested waterproofing yet. Glue sets quickly and the patches were easy to apply. I skipped the awl because the assembly directions confused me and stitched by hand with a leather needle; everything else performed fine.

Good alternative to panel replacement
A mouse chewed small holes in my camper canvas and I chose this kit instead of replacing a panel. The adhesive can be messy—use a small dish and brush for cleaner application. So far the patch has survived a couple of trips and several rainy days.
