Basics Matter Smart Plug — Compact Matter-Compatible Outlet
Product description
This compact smart plug is Matter-certified for interoperability across multiple smart home platforms. Inside the box you get a single smart plug and a quick-start guide; the accessory itself is constructed from flame-retardant ABS plastic and molded to a single‑outlet form factor so it occupies only one socket and leaves the other free.
Network compatibility is limited to 2.4 GHz Wi‑Fi; a Matter-compatible hub is required for some advanced remote-control and bridging scenarios. The outlet supports standard scheduling, voice commands through supported assistants, and time-based triggers such as sunrise/sunset when used with a compatible ecosystem.
For simplified setup with voice assistants, you can associate the plug with your assistant account at purchase to enable a near zero‑touch experience. In everyday use it’s meant for lamps, holiday lighting, fans, coffee makers and other plug-in appliances where on/off scheduling and voice control are desired.
The unit’s size and shape are designed for multi-plug wall plates and power strips; it’s primarily a single-outlet adapter rather than a bulky two-socket module. Expect typical smart‑device behaviors: local automations when supported by your hub, remote access via your assistant’s cloud or hub, and occasional network troubleshooting if your router’s band-steering is aggressive.
Pros
- Wide platform compatibility via Matter
- Compact single-socket footprint
- Supports schedules, voice and sunrise/sunset automation
Cons
- Requires Matter-capable hub for some features
- Works on 2.4 GHz Wi‑Fi only
- Intermittent connectivity reported by some users
VerdictA straightforward, widely compatible smart plug that delivers solid automation for lamps, fans and seasonal lights. Setup is generally simple when you associate the device with your assistant account at purchase and ensure a 2.4 GHz connection, though occasional connectivity drops and hub requirements are trade-offs to consider.

A much smoother replacement for my old plugs
My previous plugs were flaky and often dropped off the network. These paired easily with my voice assistant, were simple to configure, and have stayed connected. They’re a bit snug in some outlets but otherwise a solid, reliable substitute.

Adds to both Alexa and Home Assistant without trouble. Easy account addition and reliable voice control make it very convenient.

Stopped working after six months — very frustrating
Used them to automate my aquarium lights and they ran on schedules for months, then both went offline at once. I couldn’t reconnect via the usual app and resets pointed to a different home app that only offers manual control, not automations. Very disappointed and worried about replacements.

Fast HomeKit pairing and rock-solid operation
Bought this for HomeKit and it paired in minutes. It’s been reliable for months controlling a fish tank, responding to automations and Siri without dropping offline.

Unreliable for me, but customer service made it right
This unit repeatedly disconnected every few days and I ended up switching brands. A company rep contacted me, asked for a return beyond the normal window, and issued a credit plus extras. Service was helpful even though the plug didn’t meet my needs.

Good hardware, moving to Matter simplifies setup
Decent plugs overall. I’m upgrading to Matter versions now — connecting smart outlets can be annoying, so that improvement is welcome.

Affordable Matter plug that installs quickly
Worked immediately with HomeKit and Home Assistant. Setup was straightforward and it’s perfect for lamps or any simple outlet-controlled device.

Setup took far longer than it should have
My dual-band router’s smart steering prevented automatic 2.4 GHz pairing. I had to disable 5 GHz and perform multiple resets; even then I had to restart the assistant app before it showed up. Setup ended up taking well over an hour.

Great compatibility and easy operation
Works well with multiple assistants, simple to use and fits nicely in a duplex outlet. It does lose connection occasionally, but that hasn’t been a major issue.

Works well in one ecosystem, wouldn’t pair with Google
Performs reliably with one assistant but I couldn’t get it to connect to my Google network. First smart device I’ve had trouble pairing across both ecosystems.

Effortless setup when replacing an older system
I ordered many to replace legacy plugs and they exceeded expectations. Most arrived already associated with my account, joined Wi‑Fi without fuss, and were straightforward to name and add to routines. No extra hub clutter required for my setup.

Matter support finally let me automate my house
I wanted a unified smart-home setup despite family devices spread across platforms. After adding a Home Assistant Green that doesn’t need the Internet and using a Zigbee bridge, these Matter plugs integrated smoothly over my full Wi‑Fi mesh. They behave reliably and I’ve reordered more to control lights and appliances from phones and tablets.

Once connected, they’re extremely handy
Initial Android pairing was fiddly but it finally connected. After that, these plugs were very convenient and worked flawlessly.
