12in Tenon Saw with Brass Back and 15 PPI Cutting Edge
Product description
What you get: a single 12-inch tenon saw with a brass back, fitted wooden grip and a high-carbon steel blade cut to 15 points per inch. The tool arrives ready for typical joinery tasks and small woodworking jobs.
Blade and teeth: the steel blade is precision ground and intended for general-purpose cutting both along and across the grain. The 15 PPI tooth spacing provides fine, controlled cuts for tenons, dovetails and other small joint work. Teeth come factory-set and sharpened, though many woodworkers rework the set and hone the edge to their preference.
Back, handle and build: a brass spine is fitted to the rear of the blade to increase stiffness and improve control. The handle is timber, secured by rivets for strength and stability. Overall finish is neat, with a polished blade and a clean join between handle, blade and brass back.
How it is used: designed as a tenon and joinery saw for cutting small pieces of wood and wood-based materials. Use it for accurate shoulder, cheek and sash cuts, or as a fine-panel and partitioning saw at the bench. Some users reshape the timber grip or adjust sawset to suit personal cutting style.
Pros
- Rigid brass spine improves accuracy and control
- High-carbon, precision-ground blade holds an edge well
- 15 PPI tooth pattern yields clean, fine cuts for joinery
Cons
- Factory handle can feel blocky and may require reshaping
- Tooth set sometimes too wide out of the box
- Blade lacquer can become gummy during long cuts
VerdictA capable tenon saw for joinery and small timber work: the brass-backed spine adds rigidity, the high-carbon blade takes a keen edge, and the 15 PPI teeth suit fine cuts. Out of the box some users will want to reshape the handle and touch up the set or sharpening, but those willing to tweak it can get long-lasting, workshop-grade performance at a reasonable value.

Acceptable with minor fixes
Serviceable tenon saw. The handle is large and clumsy but easy to carve to fit. The tooth set is excessive out of the box but can be reduced. There are tutorials online that explain the adjustments.

Solid, robust tool. The handle could be more anatomically rounded, but overall I recommend it.

Nice brass-back tenon saw
Very happy with the build quality. The finer teeth make it easier to start a cut and control progress, which is handy for joinery.

Transformed by rework
Good saw but the handle is dreadful straight from the factory. Followed a couple of videos, removed the rivets, reshaped the grip and fitted bolts. Reset and sharpened the teeth and reduced the set from roughly 0.054" to about 0.030". Cheap to buy, great after a little effort.

Durable and sharpenable
Four years in and it’s still a solid tool. The teeth keep an edge yet are simple to re-sharpen. The spine is very stiff and the blade stays straight. The wooden grip isn’t the comfiest but can be reshaped. The lacquer on the blade can gum up but cleans off quickly with solvent. Should last a hobbyist for decades.

Everyday shop saw
I was unsure at first but it impressed me. Arrived sharp and stayed that way through about 60 hours, mostly cutting soft pine. I use it for general partitioning and don’t miss my power miter. Two small issues: it isn’t tapered enough so it can snag unless tipped or waxed, and its length is short for some longer strokes.

Excellent grip
Fantastic handle feel. I really like the grip.

Classic tenon saw feel
A traditional tenon saw with a brass back for added stiffness. Nicely made and good value; I suspect this particular batch may have been produced outside the UK.

Good value
Matched my expectations.

Great potential with a bit of work
Bought on recommendation and arrived closer to an economy saw: wide set, dull teeth and an unpleasant handle. Underneath it’s well made. Followed repair plans to reshape the grip, resharpen and reset the teeth and now it performs like a much pricier saw. Only worth it if you can modify it yourself.

Not perfect from the factory but rewarding
Bought based on a YouTube recommendation and expected to tweak it. The handle was blocky and the teeth poorly finished. After straightening, sharpening and reshaping the grip it cuts beautifully. Great value if you’re prepared to put in the work.

Old-school quality
Replacing an older 10" steel-backed saw, this arrived in superb condition. Handle fits well, blade and teeth are straight, and the brass back adds helpful weight. 15 PPI gives effortless, accurate cutting. Finish looks durable and with care it should last a lifetime.
