Grilling
Bourbon Barrel Oak Chunks for BBQ and Smoking, 1–4 in
Product description
What’s included: A sealed bag of bourbon-barrel oak chunks, intended for use in charcoal grills, offset smokers, pellet smokers, or gas grills with a smoke box.
Material and origin: The pieces are genuine white oak reclaimed from barrels that aged bourbon for over four years, preserving both the char layer and the spirit-seasoned wood beneath.
Sizing: Individual pieces are cut into roughly 1 to 4 inch chunks — large enough to provide extended smoke but small enough to fit into a smoker box or on top of coals.
How to use: Add directly to hot coals, tuck into a smoker box, or place among wood and charcoal to generate aromatic smoke; wetting for a short soak can moderate the initial flare-up and extend smoldering time.
Flavor profile and versatility: The oak carries subtle whiskey-notes and a sweet, toasted character that complements beef, pork, chicken, fish, and vegetables without overwhelming natural flavors.
Craftsmanship: Each chunk is handled and sorted by members of the Midwest Barrel Co. team to retain authentic barrel characteristics and deliver consistent, usable pieces for backyard and competition smoking.

Nice steak aroma with a learning curve
Adds a terrific scent to steaks if you employ it sparingly at first and increase to taste. Takes a couple tries to dial in, but worth the effort. Quality is evident, though the bundle felt a touch small for frequent use.

Repeat buyer, subtle and balanced
This is my second purchase. The bourbon influence is gentle — just a trace that complements rather than overwhelms. Highly satisfied and will keep using it.

High-quality chunks, long smokes
Excellent material — I soak a couple sticks for 30 minutes, then place them on top of coals. They smolder for hours and often leave useful remnants for the next chimney. Works especially well with beef and pork.

Smaller bag than expected
Burns and smells great, but the bag contains less wood than I anticipated.

Donovan 4/5
Sweet-smelling smoke, inconsistent sizing
Produces a pleasant, sweet bourbon-scented smoke and a steady burn. The pieces come in varying sizes which can be inconvenient. Overall performs well, though I expected larger, more uniform chunks.

Quantity appears overstated
Label claims a set volume, but when I measured the contents they came up noticeably short. The actual fill feels much less than advertised.

Good scent, limited quantity per pack
Delivers on aroma and quality, but the bag won’t cover a full day smoke for most setups. Best used to boost a fuel source rather than as the sole smoke provider.

Fresh oak scent, robust pieces
These smell fantastic and still carry the charred barrel character. The chunk sizes are generous and performance has been reliable. Happy with the quality.

Trop cher pour la quantité reçue
Très bon matériau, odeur agréable et performance correcte, mais la quantité livrée est faible pour le montant demandé. J’attendais plus de bois pour ce tarif.

Deep bourbon aroma lifts smoked meats
I tried these in my Weber Smokey Mountain and the difference was clear: a richer, layered flavor that added depth without masking the meat. The wood lights and burns evenly, giving steady smoke for long cooks. A great way to experiment with a whiskey-aged oak note.

Nice aroma, package feels small
The timber smells great and performs well, yet the package size was smaller than I anticipated. Hard to justify if you smoke frequently.
